Gather Round For Rumors

One of the tracks used in this winter collection was Gabe Durham's beautifully blended Beatles and Sufjan Stevens tune Yoko in Idaho a gentle melter that fitted the mood of the mix. Last week Gabe unveiled Rigid Rumors a set of eleven similar remixes that are more musical chairs than mashups and somewhere Radiohead bustle about with Dave Brubeck and Simon and Garfunkel, where The Swell Season, Sufjan Stevens, Biodome 5 get bounced around in bootleg blender. With a rock 'n' roll call which reads like this..

15 step, Andrew Bird, Animal Collective, Beck, Ben Folds, Beyonce, Big Poppa, Biggie Smalls, Biodome 5, Bjork, Blind Melon, Cake, Daft Punk, Damien Rice, Dave Brubeck Quartet, David Garza, David Gray, Ella Fitzgerald, Glen Phillips, Going Back To Cali, Goldspot, Idaho, John Lennon, Josh Ritter, Kanye West, The Klaxons, LCD Soundsystem, M.I.A., Madonna, Margot and the Nuclear So & So's, Medulla, Morning Bell, Morris Brown, Not, Notorious B.I.G., Of Montreal, Once Soun, Once Soundtrack, Outkast, Paper Planes, Pavarti Khan, Radiohead, Rilo Kiley, Show Me Forgiveness, Simon and Garfunkel, Sonnets, Spirit of Shackleton, Spoon, Sufjan Stevens, The Arcade Fire, The Beatles, The Decemberists, The Mountain Goats, The National, The Proclaimers, The Swell Season, The Travelling Wilburys, The Waifs, The Wrens, They Might Be Giants, This Used To Be My Playground, TV on the Radio, Volcano, Wednesday Night Worship, When Your Mind's Made Up, Wilco

There really is something for everyone, and the cherry on top being - Rigid Rumors is entirely free and available for download at Gabe's blog Gather Round Children..

When I first saw the title and the photo, I thought there was some rumor that Churchill had once recorded an album or something.

Yeah I'm not sure what the Churchill reference is about Keith - but as it's the offical Rigid Rumors cover - makes sense to use it.

Mondo, I love 'Yoko in Idaho'. Thank you so much!

Also, the concert sounds phenomenal.

You must be a blast to go to concerts with!

Wishing you a great rest of the week... sorry for this short comment. At work, computer is still broken at home and I'm sort of a pirate blogger right now. :)

You'll love the album Simon - 'First You Reel Me Out' (a combo of The Swell Season, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Biodome 5) mixes straight into '...Then You Cut the String' (Radiohead, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Simon and Garfunkel)on the album - genius..

It's a true beauty isn't it Gabbi, other concerts for this year are The Damned, Motorhead and New York Dolls - kapow!

Hey Dave! Thanks again for this nice write-up. The Churchill photo is me just trying to use something iconic and dapper--I think it's funny in the context of a remix album, something interesting to appear in the little iTunes box.

Btw, If anybody wants to cut straight to the goods, they can go to the zip page here:

Thank you Mondo!! I love the band and hadn't heard of them before... I added them to my Last.fm Library. Do you have a Last.fm account?

All makes sense now matey - thanks for that.

No I never started with Listen FM Gabbi, I like the idea but have only dipped in. Have you checked Amazing Radio - well worth a go. It's a rolling playlist of unsigned, unknowns - but all good tunes and 70% of the download price (79p)goes to the artist..Glad you liked Goldfrapp, gorgeous isn't it..
